Why does checkout show shopify.com and not by domain?

When a user checksout from my shopify store, the URL shows checkout.shopify.com.  Also, the Site headers and footers disappear. From a branding/image perspective, i find this to be a big negative.  Is there a way to correct this?

Hey Mike.

Mike here from Shopify. The reason why you see this is because on all plans from Basic -> Advanced our shops use what is known as a shared SSL. This allows for us to keep the cost down for our merchants with regards to the maintenance and up keep of a valid certificate with regards to credit card processing, security and PCI-compliance, etc. that we control that action.  Whereas in other situations where you have your own like in your inquiry about with your own .com showing in the URL bar, the merchant is responsible for the certificate and that can be more costly. So we save you the money buy having a shared one.

Note: You can get your own associated, but that would require applying for our enterprise solution. If interested you can check it out here: https://plus.shopify.com

Regards,

-Mike A.

Hmm...it seems BigCommerce offers this with their standard plan.

The Plus plan states its for 'high volume, fast growing merchants'.  That's not us, YET.  With these types of limitations, the little guys that are starting out will not be able to get to that level - branding is so important in this industry when starting out, and this seems to be a really big problem for us.

Are you saying if i get my own certificate, this will be resolved?  can you provide some documentation, instructions or assistance on how to do so, without having to ugrade to Plus, when we haven't actually even gotten off the ground yet?

Mike - Only Shopify Plus merchants have the ability to use a custom domain on check. Both Standard and Plus plans provide the SSL (or EV SSL for Plus) as part of the subscription cost.

It says on my Shopify app that "Starting July 20, customers can check out on your custom domain" but mine still shows check.shopify.com so does this mean I can be upgraded anytime?

July 20 has only just begun in some timezones so give this some time to rollout to all 400k+ stores.
