Shopify processes images on upload?
I ran my site through google page speed insights and I noticed it reported that one of my images, a png could benefit from compression. It said it could be reduced 80% which worked out at a reduction of 32.2K. The problem was I had already ran that image through optimisation and it shows on my HD as 28k so could hardly be reduced by 32k without disappearing from existence.
So I downloaded the online image from the shopify CDN and sure enough it had grown to 42k? The image name confirmed that it was indeed the optimised version that I had uploaded so it should be the same size as on my hard drive - just 28k.
Why is shopify giving images a bigger footprint? It's making me fail the google page speed test when in fact I've done all the hard work to pass it...
