Keep getting an error when connecting Google Shopping

I'm trying to configure google shopping and when I set up the account I get the following error. I've taken a look at my shipping setting and can't see any issues. Please help.

Shipping settings

Google requires shipping settings for certain countries. We’ll import them from your current Shopify store settings.

Shipping rates are required for Australia.

We located your Shopify store shipping rates and will import them automatically.

We couldn’t add shipping rates to your Merchant Center account. You’ll need to refresh your shipping rates before you can create an account.

My name is Jade, I am with the Social Care Team at Shopify.

Google Shopping can have issues if your business offers free shipping. I did some digging and found an older forum post here about a similar issue another business owner had. This post is from when we used an app to connect stores to Google Shopping before the launch of the sales channel. If you try to setup weight based shipping and have the minimum be 0.1lbs that might just work!

Hi, Artworx!

Our Tier 2 Department has recommended making a separate shipping zone for the country you're located in. So if your business is in the United Kingdom you'll need to make a separate shipping zone for your country. After creating a shipping zone you'll need to make the minimum order amount $0.01 for a price based rate or 0.01 for a weight based rate. Here are the steps to set that up:

1) In your Shopify admin click Setting > Shipping

2) Click Add Shipping Zone

3) Click the Add Countries button and select the country your business is located in. For this example I'm using the United Kingdom.

4) For a price based rate you'll want to make the minimum order amount $0.01 like the image below:

If you're using a weight-based rate, the minimum order weight would be 0.01

Make sure you're always clicking Save so that you don't have to go back and do the same steps again.

That worked for me too! Updated prices to £0.01 and then reconfigured our google shopping sales channel... success! I'll start exploring our new sales channel now. Thanks for your help!

Hi Jade, I'm having the same issue. I've set my minimum shipping to £0.01 but still no luck. Any more advice?

Hi Helen

Have you disconnected and then reconnected your google ads account? Starting google shopping channel again after changing to £0.01 minimum shipping cost worked for me! Hope this helps.

Hi Jade,

thanks for the info. I did change the shipping info according to your guidelines but it still doesn´t seem to work. Is there anything else I can do ? (we don´t charge any delivery fees for the selected country).

Helen: I apologize for not seeing your message sooner. I'm glad to see that the issue fixed itself and everything is set up. If anything comes up or you have any questions please let me know. 

Carlos: It sounds like you may have split the country you're located into separate shipping zones which could be causing the issue with Google Shopping. You'll need to have one shipping zone for your entire country.

For example) Let's say I have a business located in the United States, I have to have one shipping zone in my Shopify admin (under Settings > Shipping) for the entire country instead of having separate zones for different states.

Hi Jade,

thank you very much for your feedback ! I changed the shipping zone (in this case for Spain) as we want to activate google shopping for spain. However, it still doesn´t work. Any other suggestions what we might have to change ?

Hi 

I am also having trouble. I can't get Google to verify my shipping rates via Shopify.

I have two zones for Australia as I offer local Pickup for Melbourne. Moving to 1 zone would mean this offer is visible to those outside of Victoria. 

How can I get Google to verify?

Solution:

1) Create a single country shipping option

2) Create a weight based shipping option

3) make weight and minimum order value £0.01

4) Do not check free shipping - instead, make shipping price £0.00

This worked for me - i dont know if you need step 3, but it doesnt hurt.
