Member listing tool This post is outdated

Hi I'm looking for an app that will allow users to become a member and then post a listing with a picture.

There are a whole bunch of categories I am creating so the user needs to be able to choose a category list the item in.

The only transaction taking place is that the user pays to list the item.

Anyone know of anything that could handle this?

Thanks

Hi, Lendie.

This is Max from the Shopify Team.

It sounds like what you're after might be a marketplace-type solution. This would give you some more control over things like creating new customer accounts, tracking sales (if that applies), etc.

Otherwise, adding customer accounts is fairly simple, the addition of uploading images could be done over email, for example.

If that sounds more like it, check out this doc, it links to all of the ways you can edit notifications.

Under Settings > Notifications you can see what notifications are available and there's a whole section about customers that might come in handy.

If that's not quite what you had in mind please let us know some more details and we'd be happy to chat things through with you!

Cheers,
Max

Hi Max, thanks.

I'm looking for customers to list thier products on my site. All they would incur is a small listing fee.

So the process would be:

1. Sign up as a member

2. list your item and choose a category

3. Pay a fee for listing (to me)

Is there something like this I could look at?

Hi, Lendie.

Max again!

Have you considered creating a product that could be customized by the member/customer? This would mean that you could charge a certain amount for listing (as the product price), capture the member's details (as a customer at checkout), and have them upload images and or product descriptions.

If you'd rather streamline this process, using an app or some custom coding to help you upload files and info might be useful.

If you're looking to restrict access to this product, you could use an app like Locksmith to allow only certain visitors to access this product, or section of your shop.

This option would require you to receive a new "order" from a member and then you would manually upload the product to your Shopify admin.

Otherwise, I still think that the marketplace options could work, and it might streamline the process you've described above.

There might be some other contributors who have some alternative ideas! I hope that this helps you think of some alternate routes.

Best,
Max
