Let customers choose a delivery address from a pre-defined list

Hey there,

is there an app or any other solution to let customers choose a delivery adress from a pre-defined list?

Also, as a next step, we would like to connect the chosen delivery adress to the corresponding affiliate partner. Which affiliate app would make this the easiest to accomplish?

Thank you!

Hello Fabian,

Where would the delivery addresses come from? It sounds like this would be for repeat customers, is that what you're thinking? I haven't come across an app like that, and a quick search of the app store didn't show anything. But, the Shopify API indicates that customers can have multiple addresses, so there probably could be an app like this.

But, I just checked out a store that I've shopped from before, and if a customer creates an account, and logs in during the shopping process, you can select from multiple addresses. It looks like each address a customer adds, whether a shipping or billing address will show up in that box.

Is that what you're looking for?

Take a look at the image I've attached and let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Todd, unfortunately this is not what I am looking for. As I said, I want customers to be able to choose from a pre-defined list of addresses - not addresses entered by the customer himself. So to answer your question "Where would the delivery addresses come from?": We want to add them ourselves - a predefined list of possible delivery addresses in addition to the option of providing your own private address.

Hello Fabian,

Thanks for clarifying. It was not obvious you meant to define the list for your customers.

It would be helpful to know more information. If these are publicly listed addresses, similar to how Amazon allows you to get deliveries to Amazon Lockers or FedEx locations in some countries, that would be a different challenge than if you wanted to manually create and maintain a list of delivery addresses across one or more regions or countries. Will it make logical sense for a specific customer to choose from more than one of your predefined addresses, or would there be only 1 of them that would make sense for a specific customer?

Thanks a lot for your help!

The list of addresses must be created manually by us. There would only be 1 of them at a given point in time. Context: We work together with fitness studios and it makes sense for the customers to get their delivery shipped to their fitness studio.

Hey Fabian,

Cool, that helps a lot. There could be a few options; this is just a brainstorm about how the problem could be theoretically solved...

1. Custom app which lets you add an individual fitness studio address to each customer's profile. Then they could just select the address from that dropdown I posted earlier. You could test this out today by adding an address manually to a customer's profile. Clearly, doing this manually isn't a great option and it would really only work for repeat customers.

2. I think you could treat this as an "in-store pickup" situation. There are a number of apps which do this, like Store Pickup & Delivery, Globo Store Locator + Pickup, or Store Pickup Click and Collect. I think you'd have to add each fitness studio as a store location. I think each Shopify store has a limit to the number of locations you can have. Shopify Basic, for example, is limited to 4 locations. And you might have to manage inventory for each store separately, which would stink.

3. Create a product variant called "Fitness studio shipping location" or something like that, with "none" and then each fitness studio. However, you'd have to manage the inventory for each "variant".

4. Custom javascript on the product details page or cart that adds a dropdown for them to select the fitness studio they use, which then adds URL variables to the cart URL to pass in the custom shipping address.

5. Add a custom field to your customer data asking them to choose their Fitness studio like with Custom Customer Fields. I'll look into this app a little more.

And I just found this forum thread that discusses a similar request. They didn't identify an off-the-shelf solution.

I think any solution may be complex.

If you want to have an app that helps customers to choose a store from a list, you should try Store locator app, you can add a list of addresses and customer may enter their location and it will automatically generate the nearest one. It may look like this on your store
