Split payment online/physical POS for expensive products

Hi everyone, I have been working on my website for a while now but it's my first time posting here. I am looking for some opinions / technical feebacks.

On my website I sell day-long to week-long experiences/tours in Italy to tourists coming from abroad. Due to the nature of the product prices are high ranging from 300$ to as 3000$. This in my opinion can understandibly scare many customers away as they probably won't feel comfortable spending so much on a service bought online. This is especially true at the beginning when one hasn't built a strong sense of trust and social proof with limited reviews and content.

So here is what I would like to hear your opinions and feebacks on: What if customers were allowed to pay half of the cart total at the moment of purchase and the other half only upon starting the experience with us in Italy using the Shopify POS? This would not only create a more relaxed type of payment but also (and more importantly) give us more crediblity?

I am interested in both overal opinions as well as feebacks on the actual feasability of it on a techical level.

Thank you!:)

Hi Luca,

Nick here from Shopify.

Really good question and I completely understand those reservations. What you're looking to do is possible, but the only aspect which I feel might be tricky is the second payment being applied on the POS system. After doing some research your best bet here might be to do this via an app. There are some split payment apps in the Shopify App store for this:

Alternatively, you could look into having something made custom by a Shopify Expert/ developer. It will more than likely have a higher up-front cost than the apps but it would be yours and tailored exactly to your needs.

Hope this helps and don't hesitate to ask any other questions should you have any.

All the best, Nick

P.S. I love the idea and concept of your store and as Fan of Italy in general, such a beautiful country.

Hi Luca,

Nick here again.

I got a reply from the team at Partial.ly Payment Plans about whether or not it is POS applicable. They mentioned it's not a feature right now but could be very soon.

Something to keep an eye out for. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

All the best, Nick

Hi Luca - for this type of question you might want to join a group on Facebook called Internet Marketing Super Friends. We are not allowed to post links in this forum but I am sure you can find this group by searching for Internet Marketing Super Friends. If you asked your question in this group I think you would receive useful feedback.

Nick, thanks for the help! I checked the options you offered and yeah they are not exactly what I was looking for but defenitely are something I can start play with.

I guess a taylormade solution by the shopify experts would be an expensive one(?) ahah but I will keep also that one in mind. Thanks :)

Hi Luca,

That's exactly it. Also like I mentioned the Partial.ly Payment Plans app say that they might be integrating the POS feature quite soon. It could be worth reaching out to them directly (support@partial.ly) to find out more about this and explain your situation and how this would benefit your business directly.

All the best, Nick
