[resolved] Checkout once again / EU laws.. This post is outdated

Hi there!

Our german clients get a little bit nervous about Shopify these days as a new law forces them to have the "ORDER" button right next to the "Total Price".

The order of the elements on the second checkout step right now is:

  1. Items/Total Price
  2. Coupon / Shipping / Newsletter
  3. ORDER button

So we're forced to move the "Item/Total Price" element between the Coupon/Shipping/Newsletter box and the ORDER button to have this order:

  1. Coupon / Shipping / Newsletter
  2. Items/Total Price
  3. ORDER button

Since there are no custom checkout templates or something similar EU/German customers really have a big problem in future and would probably get sued.

We need your help and get AT LEAST a classname/id somewhere in the BODY of the checkout documents - so we can try to switch positions of ALL elements depending on which checkout step the user is in at the moment. This would be the simplest option FOR NOW until you really get custom checkout pages up and running....

I'd really appreciate any comments on this issue directly from Shopify :)

Thanks for your nice service - but don't forget about your EU clients....

Forgot to mention one thing :)

We're trying to fix this via the only solution -> checkout.css but can't separate whether the user is on step 1 (where no action is needed) or step 2 (where 2 items need to be switched)

I think shopify really need to respond to this. Is this Law for all EU countries, I'm in the UK, but get some EU orders. Is there anywhere I can read up about the law stipulations? Thanks :)

Afaik eyery country in the EU is forced to distribute the law 'til the end of 2013...

Here's a german source for it - couldn't find anything in english:
http://www.spiegel.de/netzwelt/netzpolitik/kaufvertraege-im-internet-eu-parlament-beschliesst-die-button-loesung-a-770158.html

But basically the whole issue is just about the checkout-process...
99,9% of the other online shops are doin' this just right... magento, spree, oxid, shopware, xtc, etc... they all have the button in the right place and you're able to REVIEW and CHANGE ALL your products/addresses/etc on your last checkout step.....

Still no comment from Shopify on this issue?

Shopify just updated their checkout-process steps a little bit and added a class for the right step to the #container div...

Thanks for this quick-fix guys - but please keep up working on a nice checkout solution :)

Some additions have been made to checkout to allow for the move of the order summary for anyone who needs to do this to better comply to German law. Below is a rough guide to repositioning these elements using your checkout.css file:

.step2 #content {
  margin-top: 80px !important;
}

.step2 #overview {
  position: absolute;
  margin: 0 !important;
  margin-top: 560px !important;
}

.step2 #wallet, .step2 #products {
  margin: 0 !important;
}

.step2 #products {
  height: 110px !important;
  overflow-y: scroll !important;
}

.step2 #complete-purchase {
  margin-top: 230px !important;
}
