[LAUNCH] New Plus Partner Sandbox Stores

Edit: 22/05/18: I've passed along all the feedback to the relevant teams, thanks all!

Hi Partners!

Shopify Plus Partners can now create Shopify Plus Sandbox Stores. These stores are a sandbox store that includes most of the features that are available on the Shopify Plus plan, so you can learn how to build on Shopify Plus and create demos for prospective merchants.

Key features of Plus Partner sandbox stores

  • Make an unlimited number of test purchases through the bogus gateway payment provider.

  • Process an unlimited number of test orders, and up to 500 real orders instead of 50.

  • Create an unlimited number of unique products.

  • Access Shopify Plus features in the admin, such as the Wholesale channel.

  • Access Shopify Plus apps, such as Flow, Launchpad, and Transporter.

  • Use Shopify Plus API call rates.

  • Access custom checkouts (ask your partner manager to enable this feature).

  • Install paid apps. You need a card on file to install a paid app, but you will not be charged. Otherwise, you can install partner-friendly apps only.

To learn more about our new Shopify Plus Partner sandbox stores, visit our documentation here.

If you are a Shopify Plus Partner, you'll be able to create sandbox stores in your Partner Dashboard in the coming weeks. Stay tuned for email updates.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to comment in the thread below.

Great news for Plus partners.

Many app developers, like Rewind, would still benefit from being able to test Plus functionality for our apps. However we don't refer Plus leads to Shopify, so we can't qualify as a Plus partner (at least that's my understanding...)

Is there a way for non Plus partners to create Plus test stores?

This is a super-welcome addition! πŸŽ‰

However, we seem to be missing a link in the post?

Is there anyway for an existing Plus store to become a development store?

I had my Plus rep give my development store "Plus" status to be able to develop/test Plus features. However, this means that it's considered to be a full-on paid store and not a development store.

Oodles of +1's for what Rewind Mike said above... we've been asking for this for some time now, it finally arrives and it's limited to Plus Partners only! Such a shame.

We too work behind the scenes to make it possible for Plus Partners to bring larger stores onto the Plus platform through our custom integrations and apps, but we too are not actively generating plus leads, therefore no Plus Partner status.

Please can this be considered so that we can proactively start building useful Plus tools and apps without having to rely on handouts from our Plus Partner friends?

+1 million here.

I actively develop Plus shop functionality for my Plus customers, and yet because I am not considered a Plus Partner, my development Shop has been neutered for Plus functionality. Seems a shame that bit twiddling is too hard for Shopify to offer to developers of Plus stores that are not considered Plus Partners. Your walled garden approach almost certainly fosters some weeds and you're preventing some flowers from blooming in there.

+1 Brazillion (that’s a shed load!)

I actively maintain 5 Plus stores but since my Partner Manager became a Growth Coach, I’m a freelancer, and “growth” isn’t really part of my strategy, I’m also locked out of the inner circle of Plus Partners.

One of my clients effectively pays for their dev store right now (as one of their 5 allowable instances included with their contract.)

Hey Ryan. This is a great development. We're not a Plus partner (we only do apps) but we still need to be able to test with Plus stores. Will there be any way for non Plus partners to create Plus test stores in the near term?

Agree with the many requests here. As an app developer, we work with hundreds of Shopify Plus stores and would really benefit from testing with a Shopify Plus Sandbox Store.

Ironically, we don't qualify for being a Shopify Plus Technology Partner, since we develop exclusively for Shopify (and Shopify Plus) and they want multi-platform tech partners who can refer customers on Magento, etc to Shopify Plus. It seems like they're actually restricting the best tech for Shopify Plus as a sales/growth tactic, but I'm not sure how effective that actually is.

+1 also for app developers to be able to create at least one Plus sandbox store.

I've been wanting to evaluate Shopify Plus for my customers, but have been unable to see if it would benefit their needs, as I've not been able to play with a Plus Store in a sandbox.

I'd like the ability to test these out myself, as one of our customers is recommending leaving Shopify due to limitations they're experiencing with inability to test wholesale functionality or use braintree, both of which are plus options.

Hey folks - thanks so much for giving your feedback here. I'm the one leading this rollout, so it's great to see your interest and passion for getting access to Plus Sandbox stores.

We're continuing with our current plan for rollout, but will certainly think about how we can accomodate other high-value partners to gain access to Plus Sandboxes in the future.

What I would appreciate hearing more is why these plans would be valuable to you, as many of the features of Plus are available to the Affiliate plan. Is it primarily the branding or, as Jordan mentioned above, specific features that you're looking to test and learn about. Also, @Jordan - the Wholesale channel is available to test on the Affiliate plan.

Thanks!

Hey Andrew. Here is the definition of useless. You'll appreciate this. I will spell it out. Please do inform me (us) of my folly.

1) create a brand new Dev shop

2) examine Apps so I can fiddle with Script Editor, a simple, sort of working Plus advantage many of my Plus customers use.

It is not there. So wow. How useless is this to me? Why do I bother? Do I have to beg? Bark at the moon? Conjure ghosts with Ouji board? I could care a less about Oberlo, or Order Printer... I am wanting to develop a script in this spanking new dev shop... so what is up?

Dave! Diplomatic, as always but nevetheless on point...

Andrew — the logo?! lol c'mon maan! Which, if any, of the following are available to non-plus dev stores? I use these all quite a bit...

  • Script Editor
  • Flow
  • Gift Card API

Rick! I guess I should try harder. Maybe I can sneak a "be nice bot" into the chatter, ride that signal to glory amongst the noise, and reap major benefits. Anyone want a paid intern position to take positive sentiment analysis software to rewrite my dangerous diplomacy and turn out merely friendly banter? Anyone?

Hi Dave, Rick,

I'm fairly certain affilliate stores can install and test both Script Editor and Flow.  The Scripts/Flows I don't think will run on any orders, but the full backend including testing Scripts works on my dev store.

Is that the sort of functionality you were looking for? Or did you want to set up a testbed store that shows both of these in action?

Cheers, Ryan.

Hey folks,

Just to expand on Ryan's point - Flow, Wholesale, Scripts and other Shopify Plus apps should install and run on the Affiliate plan as expected. If you have cases where they don't I'd appreciate a link to the store so we can take a look.

For specific APIs like the Gift Card API, they're enabled on a per-API key basis regardless of plan type. Your Partner Manager might have more information on if that's accessible to your development store.

Happy to hear any other feedback that comes up.
