Theme settings not showing (until I save a CSS file) This post is outdated

I'm changing the theme settings on my store, and they're not showing up on the site. However, when I open a CSS file and just press save, they will show up. It's like it's triggering a cache to turn over. Anything I can do to help this?

That's odd but I would have to see your css.liquid file. Are you using the asset_url for your image path Jimbo?

I pretty much just made a few changes to a purchased theme. So my client is changing the colors in the theme settings file. But they are not seeing any changes. We have to open and save a css file to get it to work.

Are you on a trial account Lucy? Trial accounts do not deliver assets from the CDN but rather from a the "static" server. This may be the cause of your less than instantaneous updates. It's really hard to tell without access to your css.liquid file.

We are not on a trial server. Let me explain the steps that happened, since Shopify support is providing a 'not my problem' response:

Client bought theme and installed. [Stoked Theme]

Client went into theme settings page and used the form from the theme settings page to change colors, apply logos, etc.

He found that it did not give enough control, so asked me to help. I changed a few theme settings. And then I went into the template editor, and I took the theme.liquid file, and stoked.css.liquid file. I copied into my text editor, made some changes, copied back, and saved.

Then the problems started happening. I found that any theme editor changes did not take affect until I went to the template editor, opened a file and saved without even changing anything. It seemed to trigger the cache.

I'm also seeing this yellow message, saying it's taking time to propagate:

Changes to your assets are currently propagating to Shopify's Content Delivery Network and changes may not be immediately visible to users of your shop.
What is a CDN?

How long should this take? I've worked on a bunch of sites and it's never been a problem.

No one is providing links or copies at least the relevant portions of their css.liquid files. Hard to respond or do much. All I can do is guess.

Jamie, I've been experiencing issues with saving templates as well... You'll make changes and save it and somehow the template reverts back to several versions prior.

As for the CDN, I have problems with that as well. Sometimes new asset images don't show up for hours. Usually can't overwrite images either, have to completely rename them in order for them to appear correctly.

Thought Shopify took care of the issues last week, but seems like this all might be related?

I had trouble last week with static.shopify.com. CDN has been fine for me. You may try running a traceroute and submitting it to support to see if anything is amiss. I've been working on a new site all day and haven't had any issues and I'm pushing updates 2-5 per minute and getting instan results.

I just tested my theme settings file and again I'm seeing instant changes. :/

Hmm weird. I'm experiencing less problems this week, but it still happens occasionally. And this has been across several accounts that I've been working on the last few weeks, not just a single store.

Theme Settings work fine for me also.
