2Checkout (2CO) - Beta Testers Welcome

A beta integration for 2Checkout is now available on Shopify, and we need beta testers before we make it publicly available. 2CO is available to merchants worldwide (with the exception of a handful of countries) so this should come as good news for shops located in countries where there aren't a lot of integrated gateways to choose from.

If you're interested in participating in the beta, please reply to this thread and/or contact our support team to ask them to enable the 2Checkout beta on your account.

Thanks!

@shay -- you're now set up. Find it available credit card gateway options in your payment settings.

2Checkout looks very interesting...It looks like they allow for a custom checkout experience....does this mean we can customize our Shopify checkout process? Or does the integration only provide another payment gateway option within the normal shopify checkout process?

Thanks!

2CO is implemented as a hosted (offsite) gateway. Customers are redirected from the standard Shopify checkout to the 2CO site to complete their payment, and redirected back to your Shopify store on success. You may be able to use 2CO's tools to customize their hosted payment page.

I think I would like to beta test this.  Can we turn it off and on?

@John -- 2CO is now accessible to you in your checkout settings. You'll first have to disable your existing credit card gateway before finding 2Checkout in the list of available options.

So, before I do that, can I read up more somewhere?  Where does the money from the payments route to?  Will I enter my Merchant account information with 2CO?

@John -- your best bet is to consult 2co.com and/or their support team for any questions relating to their services or experience specifically.

What?  no, sorry.  You are the one offering their services.  I would expect you to have that basic answer.

Anyone else have an answer who went ahead and is testing this out?

Hi John,

Shopify provides a secure and integrated link from your checkout to a 3rd party gateway that you would sign your own independent agreement with. Note that Shopify integrates with a growing list of 80+ payment gateways that each have their own policies, advantages, and experiences, and we cannot be experts in each of their unique systems as they evolve.

Assuming you did sign up with 2CO (or any other provider), once you received your gateway credentials, you would enter them into your Shopify checkout settings, to link your checkout to this accounts. Depending on your country or agreement with 2CO, you would either use them strictly as a gateway, or as a full-service merchant account provider. If the latter, 2CO would be the party transferring you the funds. Otherwise, it could be the acquiring bank that 2CO connects to (again dependent on your country) that would be sending you the transfers.

I need to apologize.  I saw someone mentioning custom checkout and I thought that was what was being offered to Beta.  My mistake.  I did not realize it was just another gateway.

Hi,

I'd very much like to have 2checkout enabled on my shopify store

My store is shirtland.shopify.com

In fact, I only signed up for Shopify when I found this forum post as 2checkout is my cc processor.

@Shirtland: your site should now have 2CO as an available credit card gateway.

@Akshat: 2CO is definitely available in India.

Note the that the beta has revealed an issue in the integration that is currently being resolved by the 2CO team. It's slated to be fixed by the end of the month. I will post another response in this thread once it's fully functional again. In the interim, we recommend that you use an alternative gateway if one is available in your country.

Thank you Louis,

The 2CO gateway seems to function properly as far as I have tested it, can you let me know what kind of issue as been revealed so I can make a more informed decision on using it for now ?

@Shirtland -- 2CO needs to be able to validate purchases made from the Shopify Checkout rather than the shop's domain. This should be updated by the end of the month. Were you actually able to make a successful 2CO purchase from within Shopify?

Hi Louis,

The 2checkout process works seamlessly for the customer, except that the gateway does not direct the customer to a page confirming the purchase, instead it goes back to the home page and the item(s) checked out and paid for are still showing in the cart.  Also the buyer does not get an opportunity to create an account, which is just as well as the sale is not shown on the site.

The sale is completed and paid for, but sadly not recorded at all in shopify admin.  I get an email immediately from 2checkout confirming the payment (along with all the details I need to fulfil the order), and the customers get an email immediately from 2checkout confirming the order.

I guess I can change the return URL manually in 2checkout so that it takes a successful buyer to page that I can make explaining that the order will be confirmed by email shortly.

My biggest problem is that the sale is not deducted from my stock control and leaves me in danger of subsequently selling an item that is no longer in stock.

I'm actually concerned now that I may be in some accidental breach of shopify rules as clearly shopify can't charge me the 2% if they don't know about the sales (which by the way I'm happy to list and pay the 2%).  Can you please confirm that I'm not in breach of any rules by beta testing this gateway ??

It seems to me that as the payment gateway is 95% working it can't be a big deal to fix the shopify integration.

I'm reluctant to remove the gateway as 2Checkout is my preferred method of payment, I dislike PayPal and as I live in Thailand my other options for payment gateways are somewhat more limited than for my stateside cousins.

The 2checkout gateway in shopify is still much better than the one in woocommerce that I was using prior to moving to shopify.

Andrew

Shopify Louis ..Is there any progress at all with fixing this bug ??

It would be great if, as a temp measure, there was a option to manually mark a 2CO as paid, as there is in other payment modules.

Currently 2CO transactions appear as an abandoned cart, the checkout ID is confirmed in the 2CO email that sellers (and buyers) get so it's easy enough to match up the orders and contact the customer informing of a successful transaction.  The order details are shown in the abandoned cart page, if it were not for the abandoned cart feature I would not even know what a 2CO customer has purchased.

From the customers perspective the 2CO checkout process is fine until actual payment takes place, so it's certainly not a bug that prevents sales.  I feel sure that a professional coder could actually fix this in an afternoon if the motivation were there!  (I'm not a professional coder so forgive me if I'm wrong).

I should mention that I live in Thailand, that's why 2CO is of particular interest to me.  It's not easy to get good payment processors when you live in a country like Thailand.  I understand that US or UK sellers don't fully appreciate this.  Sure I can use PayPal (and I do offer the option), but I'm not happy with having just the one option.

Any updates on the 2checkout status. I am from India and have no option but to use 2checkout. So waiting for the beta to end.

The problem is exactly the same when i checked last time. That the orders are landing to abandoned checkout instead of orders.

I'm not actually sure that I understand why this is happening.

Louis from Shopify said   "2CO needs to be able to validate purchases made from the Shopify Checkout rather than the shop's domain".

So does that mean that if I ask 2CO to change my registered website address from www.shirtland.co.uk to shirtland.myshopify.com that it'll then be OK, if so then I don't really mind paying the $19.99 admin fee that 2CO charge for  change of registered domain.

Perhaps somebody from Shopify Payments could clarify this for us.

Edit:

oops I just noticed that the checkout URL is actually checkout.shopify.com, I'm starting to see why this is a technical problem that may not be resolved with just some coding.

Hi Marc -- looks like you're already using Stripe as your credit card gateway. You'd need to click the change gateways button to enable 2CO.

I have and operate my shop within Thailand, offering all products on my website in the currency of Thai Baht (THB). Within the "Checkout & Payment" section of my store admin I have selected "2Checkout" as a payment gateway because the drop down said something like "Available in Thailand". So, I signed up for an account with 2Checkout and then followed all the instructions posted within the Shopify instructions. Number five (5) in the Shopify instructions is baffling me though:

"5. Ensure that your 2Checkout Pricing Currency matches your shop's currency (THB)."

Within my 2Checkout account under "Pricing Currency" there is no option for Thai Baht (THB) currency under the drop down choices. There are a lot of other currencies listed in the drop down to choose, but not Thai Baht.

To Shopify Louis or other Shopify Employee(s) - Am I missing something? What gives? Please advise?

Hi Jason,

I'm in Thailand. Have been here for 12 years and operating eCommerce sites for all that time.

2Checkout is very good, but unlike paypal you get approved for a specific domain name and currency.  I can't recall if 2checkout support THB or not, I use it for Pounds Sterling payments.

The combination of Shopify and 2Checkout is seamless and a very nice experience for the customer.

My base currency needs to remain in THB.

I think I have identified a problem with the 2checkout integration, though it may be one of my settings that's incorrect.

2Checkout sales process beautifully, and the order updates correctly.  Everything works nice in Shopify except the refund option is unavailable.

However, behind the scenes the order is identified on 2checkout as a intangible sale with no shipping address (though the sale is certainly for a very tangible T-shirt).   This means that should the buyer choose to dispute the sale it'll be immediately refunded regardless if it has verifiable delivery or not, because as far as 2checkout are concerned it's a virtual sale.

It's unlikely to present any real problem for my sales at this time, but I'd like to correct this so that the payment status in 2checkout matches that on shopify.

@Shirtland -- looking further at the integration, we should be forwarding these details to 2CO on redirect to their hosted payment page. Are you able to take this up with 2CO support referencing the transactions in question to see what they're able to dig up? Please feel free to contact me directly at louis@shopify.com.
